Nigerian Labour Congress, Sokoto chapter has on Monday joined others in the country to picket the offices of Kaduna Electric Company in the State.
The team which was led by the chairman of the chapter, Comrade Abdullahi Jungle, and his counterpart from the Trade Union Congress, Ibrahim Abubakar, also stormed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, to effect the directive on the picketing.
Speaking while addressing newsmen at the premises of the KAEDCO head office in the state along Kaduna Road, the chairman of TUC in the state, said the team embarked on the process to enforce the directives of its national headquarters.
He said the union leaders in the state will ensure total compliance with the directive pending when they receive another letter to discontinue.
“We embark on this move to enforce the directives of our national headquarters and we will ensure we maintain the compliance pending when we receive another directive to lift it.
“We are doing this to let the authorities know that Nigerian masses cannot afford the latest increase in the electricity tariff as announced by the agency.
“The masses are tired of failed promises, they should reverse it back to the old price”
Also speaking, the Secretary of NLC in the state, Comrade Hamisu Hussain, said the team enforced the directive by closing all the KAEDCO offices in the state, especially within the metropolis.
“We embarked on the directive and I can assure you that it was a huge success. We were able to seal all the offices of KAEDCO as well as the NREC office in the state”
“We locked their office at Kaduna road, that of opposite Zabira mall, Mabera, Agunwarogo among others,” he added.
