The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is teaming up with key players in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem to establish the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship, also known as the Start-up Council. A consultative forum to nominate members to the Council is scheduled for April 28, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Hadiza Umar, NITDA’s Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations, announced the development.
According to Hadiza Umar, the upcoming forum marks a significant milestone in strengthening stakeholder engagement within Nigeria’s dynamic startup ecosystem.

She noted that the initiative, convened under the Nigeria Startup Act (NSA), underscored the Federal Government’s dedication to positioning start-ups as key drivers in fostering an innovation-friendly environment.
Umar urged stakeholders to collaborate with NITDA to build a vibrant ecosystem that supports and celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerian start-ups.
“The Council will serve as the apex advisory body for the country’s startup ecosystem.
“Outcomes from this forum will lay the groundwork for inclusive policy development and ensure the voices of Nigeria’s tech and innovation community are heard and amplified”, she said.
She further called on all labelled start-ups, verified innovation and entrepreneurship support organisations, such as angel investors, venture capitalists and other relevant stakeholders, to participate in the forum and take part in the nomination and voting process.

“Join us in shaping the future of digital innovation in Nigeria,” Umar added.
The Nigeria Startup Act, signed into law on October 19, 2022, was established to provide a robust legal framework for the growth and development of startups across the country.
It offers a range of incentives, including access to a startup seed fund and streamlined business registration processes.
