The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has said that the nation’s current security challenges will soon be a thing of the past.
“I am optimistic that these security challenges will soon come to an end,” General Musa said.
He stated this yesterday at the Depot Nigerian Army Centenary Celebration and the 87th Regular Recruits Intake Passing Out Parade held at RSM Hama Kim Parade Ground, Depot NA Zaria.
General Musa said the Nigerian Army has achieved great feats in tackling these security threats and will continue to work tirelessly to defend the country and protect its citizens.
The CDS said, having served before as Commandant, “I am aware of the rigorous training you were subjected to and the endurance instilled in you as recruits.”
“Today marks yet another milestone in the history of the Depot Nigerian Army as we celebrate 100 years of its existence.
“The event we are witnessing not only reminds us of the achievements of this prestigious institution but also the efforts and resilience of Army Headquarters, past and present Commandants, as well as the staff and instructors of this great institution.
“This occasion is a testament to your commitment to excellence, discipline, and service to our great nation. As the Chief of Defence Staff, I am proud to see the Nigerian Army continue to thrive and grow.
“It is pertinent to inform our distinguished audience that the Depot Nigerian Army, since its inception in 1924, has continuously moulded selected able-bodied young Nigerians into well-trained soldiers to meet the manpower requirements of the Nigerian Army.
“This is of utmost importance, considering the numerous security challenges confronting our beloved country.
“The institution has continued to plan and conduct its training activities in line with the constitutional role of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, to produce professional soldiers.
“This aptly resonates with my leadership concept, which is ‘to nurture a professional Armed Forces of Nigeria that is people-centric, capable of meeting its constitutional responsibilities in a joint and collaborative environment.’
“Over the years, this institution has continued to evolve innovative ways of improving the standard in the training of personnel for the Nigerian Army,” he stated.
General Musa added that this realistic and result-oriented training is evident in the robust fighting spirit displayed by the nation’s soldiers in various theatres of operation.
“Having witnessed an excellent display of drill on this parade ground today and with the reports of your good performances in various aspects of your training, I am certain that you have acquired the basic tenets required to be good soldiers.
“To the Passing-Out Recruits of the 87th Regular Intake, congratulations! Today marks the culmination of months of rigorous training.
“You have chosen a path paved with challenges, but one that will ultimately lead to great fulfilment and pride. Your perseverance and dedication during your period of training have brought you to this remarkable day,” he added.
The Army Chief charged the passing-out recruits to always do their best to maintain high professional standards and urged them to retain all aspects of the training given to them in the institution and those they will be exposed to in the field.
“As you file past today, be mindful of the huge responsibility on you, as your actions or inactions will have far-reaching consequences.
“Hence, you must avoid any act that is capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigerian Army and, by extension, the nation.
“The Nigerian Army has given you much, and the country is therefore expecting much more from you in return.
“Majority of you will be deployed to counter the activities of criminal elements that are against the progress of our beloved country,” he said.
While urging them to be loyal to constituted authorities and display professionalism in all endeavours, “you must embrace your responsibilities, serve with honour, and never forget the tremendous faith that Nigerians place in you.”
“Also, to the parents, families, and friends who have supported and encouraged these young soldiers throughout their journey, your support has paid off in helping them realise their dreams and bringing them to this defining moment,” he added.
