The newly appointed Head of Service (HoS) for Niger State, Abubakar Sadiq Idris, has announced plans to launch an ambitious entrepreneurship initiative aimed at empowering civil servants approaching retirement.
He made this announcement during a birthday reception organised in his honour by family, friends, and close associates at the Azzarah Hotel in Minna.
Sadiq Idris explained that the programme will offer a comprehensive one-year preparatory course designed to equip civil servants nearing the end of their careers with entrepreneurial skills.
The initiative aims to ensure a smooth transition from public service to private enterprise, promoting financial stability and productivity post-retirement.
“Our civil servants have dedicated their lives to the betterment of Niger State. It is our duty to ensure they are well-prepared for the next chapter of their lives,” said Sadiq Idris.
He emphasised that the programme will not only benefit individuals but also contribute to the state’s economic growth by fostering entrepreneurship.
This initiative aligns with the Niger State Government’s broader objectives of encouraging economic development and reducing reliance on public sector employment.
Sadiq Idris also urged civil servants to uphold values like integrity, dedication, and loyalty in the discharge of their duties.
In their remarks, several prominent figures, including Permanent Secretaries Dr Joseph Kolo James and Aisha T. Usman, praised Sadiq Idris for his reliability, simplicity, and commitment to public service.
They described his appointment by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago as a testament to his ability to enhance the productivity of the civil service and contribute to the state’s New Niger Agenda.
Prior to his appointment as Head of Service, Abubakar Sadiq Idris served as the Permanent Secretary in the General Services section of the Secretary to the State Government’s Office.
