Niger State government has reiterated its commitment to the payment of the Parents, Teachers Association (P.T.A) fees on behalf of pupils in public primary and secondary schools across the state.
The State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, gave the promise while speaking in Sarkin Pawa, Munya local area of the state, when he visited the area on Thursday, 16th January 2025 (yesterday).
Bago maintained that the government had taken the responsibility of paying the P.T.A. fees of all pupils and students in public schools in the state, and asked parents and guardians not to pay PTA fees for their children and wards anymore.
He also cautioned Headmasters and Principals in public schools to stop collecting PTA fees from any school children, warning that anyone found wanting would be sanctioned accordingly.
The Governor had earlier advised parents and guardians to enrol their children and wards into school, especially the girl child, highlighting that school uniforms should not be an impediment to any children from going to school, saying, “children can go to school with their personal dresses”.
“Allow your children to go to school, school uniform should not be your impediment, and any teacher that sends your child back home, please report him, he will also be sent packing from the school,” Bago warned.
The Governor, however, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing road projects in the area and enjoined the contractor handling the project to ensure timely completion.
Bago also promised to construct a road from Sarkin Pawa to Kaduna State, construct a modern market, provide potable drinking water, as well as primary healthcare, among others.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Munya local council, Aminu Najumi, Commissioner of Lands and Housing, Barrister Maurice Magaji, and Mr Peter Sankara lauded the governor for his people-oriented projects in the area, describing his one-year landmark achievements as unprecedented.
They told the governor that the area is experiencing a relatively peaceful atmosphere and commended him for providing enough security agents to protect the lives and properties of the people.
