Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago via the Niger State Health Team has swiftly implemented measures to provide urgent medical care to the victims of the tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area.
The State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, directed that free medical services be provided, alongside the deployment of sufficient health personnel to all facilities treating the injured.
He extended its condolences to the affected families, with Governor Bago expressing his sympathy in a recent statement.
Abdulbaqy Usman Ebbo, Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy, announced via the social media platform X that an 18-member multidisciplinary medical team from the Ministry of Health has been assembled to ensure prompt treatment for the victims, in line with the governor’s directive.

The medical team, led by the Commissioner of Secondary and Tertiary Healthcare, Dr. Tukur Bello, includes key officials such as the Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Shehu Ahmed, and the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Dr. Murtala Bagana.
The team has been actively deployed to provide urgent medical care at Suleja General Hospital and Shehu Musa Yar’adua Hospital in Sabon-Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area.
Upon evaluating the patients’ conditions, it was determined that many required intensive care. As a result, some victims were referred to tertiary healthcare facilities in Abuja for specialised treatment.
As of the latest updates, 43 male patients were admitted to Suleja General Hospital on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
Tragically, seven of these individuals succumbed to their injuries, three were discharged for home recovery, and ten were referred for advanced care in Abuja. The remaining 23 patients are receiving treatment for varying degrees of burns.
At the General Hospital in Sabon-Wuse, Tafa LGA, 23 patients were initially admitted.
Sadly, three passed away within the first six to eight hours. Additionally, 19 families chose to discharge their loved ones against medical advice, and one critically injured patient was referred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital in Abuja.
Ebbo also noted that the Ministry of Health team delivered medical supplies and commodities donated by the Niger State Government to both hospitals, further supporting the ongoing treatment efforts.
