The National Emergency Management Agency and Niger State Emergency Management Agency are working together to respond to the dynamite explosion that occurred in a residential area of Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.

This was disclosed in a press statement by NEMA on Monday.

The incident was said to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday at about 7:30 am.

The Niger State Police Command on Sunday confirmed that the explosion was caused by dynamites stored in a residential building.

According to the statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the explosion led to the death of one Fatima Sadauki, while six others sustained injuries and were rushed to General Hospital Kainji, New Bussa, for medical attention.

He further revealed that the incident affected about 12 houses in the area, causing significant damage to properties.

Meanwhile, NEMA has been alerted and is collaborating with the NSEMA to provide an emergency response to the incident.

“The exploded dynamite was reported to have been kept by a local artisan miner in the wrecked apartment that he had rented for his workers. Some residents of the area were affected by the incident and property was destroyed.

“Meanwhile, NEMA Minna Operation Office and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) are working together in response to the incident,” NEMA stated.
