The Nigerian Correctional Services, NCS, Okere Community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State has received approval to conduct primary school leaving certificate examination and secondary school certificate examination for inmates in its adult literacy centre.
A source within the correctional facility disclosed this to Arogidigba Global Journal.
The Source said with the approval, there will be no need to take inmates out for examination anymore.
The Source noted that the National Examination Council’s approval to the NCS was sent in October 2023.
According to the source, the National Examination Council, NECO, Minna, Niger State approval is a separate one.
It added that there’s another approval by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Warri South Local Government Area to also conduct primary six examinations for inmates within the centre.
The source said over fifty,50, inmates have enrolled so far for the National Examination Council, NECO. He said nine(9) inmates who wrote the examination last year before the approval came out with flying colours.
The source said the move will help in reforming, rehabilitating and reintegrating the inmates into the society, as well as reduce the rate of crime in the State and Country at large.
When contacted, the Deputy Comptroller of Corrections, Edo Joseph Lucky declined comments on the matter.
