Director-general Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Dr. John Asein, has said that the federal government is committed to protecting creators and creative industries in Nigeria
Dr Asein made this known at the the 2024 Nigerian Deejays Awards night in Abuja..
He said ” In your next award night,the government will be represented more than what you have today. I want to assure you that we will do everything we need to do to protect the creative industries.”
On his part,Veteran Nigerian deejay Kenny Ogungbe appealed with the government to invest more in entertainment industry.
Ogungbe who is a television host and music industry executive said the entertainment industry plays vital roll in the society stressed the need for government to make it one of its priorities.
He added that the roles of deejays have remained largely under represented in the music and entertainment industry.
“The government has never supported Nigerian deejays, those on my label list have never been celebrated. The government is not serious about music. Music is so big now that they ought to pay serious attention to” he stressed.
DJ Ogungbe, therefore appreciated Deejays Association of Nigeria for celebrating its successes and encouraging the younger generations.
On his part, the National President of DJAN, Onyebuchi Christian Edeh ( DJ perfect Int’l) said that the award night is all about the celebrating those in the industry and also the upcoming stars.
“I came in a year ago and promised to bring respect to DJAN across the country. This programme is part of what I promised to use in bringing respects back to the profession” he emphasized.
“We have thirty three branches across the country including the federal capital territory and we have selected members who have worked hard to bring the association where we are today” Edeh added.
Meanwhile, the Association’s Project Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of leadership Scorecard Magazine, Humphrey Onyima in his remarks appealed to the federal government to set aside a day to celebrate deejays across the country.
The award categories are best club deejay, best radio DJ, best Afrobeat DJ, DJ of the year, best female DJ, best event DJ, breakthrough DJ of the year, lifetime achievement award and electronic music DJ of the year.
