The Labour Party in Nasarawa State has reiterated its commitment to continue to give maximum support to the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, to enable him to take the party to greater heights.
The state chapter of the LP also congratulated Abure on his victory at the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, which validated the party’s March 2024 national convention in Nnwei, Anambra State, and affirmed his position as the party’s national chairman.
The Court of Appeal presided by Justice Hamma Barka relied on its judgment earlier delivered on November 13, 2024, in Appeal Number CA/Abj/CV/1172/2024 between the Labour Party (Appellant) against Chief Olusola Ebiseni and the Independent National Electoral Commission (respondents) to make the declaration.
This was contained in a press statement made available to journalists in Lafia, the state capital, on Friday by the state chairman, Alexander Ombugu.
According to the statement, Ombugu said the court’s decision was a testament to the strength of Nigeria’s legal system and the LP’s dedication to democratic principles.
He commended the presiding judge for compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission to validate and recognise the Abure-led leadership of the party.
The statement read in part, “On behalf of the executives, members and supporters of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, I wish to congratulate our National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, the National Working Committee (NWC) and the entire National Executive Council (NEC) of our great party for the victory at the Appeal Court, where the court-mandated INEC to recognise the Abure led-administration.
“The judgment on January 17, 2025 reaffirms Barr. Julius Abure’s leadership and we are thankful to the judiciary for upholding the rule of law and its integrity. The Labour Party will continue to remain united and focused on its mission to promote the welfare of the Nigerian people.”
According to the statement, Ombugu narrated that during the judgment, the court directed the parties to the appeals and the general public to respect the judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered on November 13, 2024, which affirmed Abure as the National Chairman of the party.
He further appealed to all aggrieved members of the party to put aside their differences and settle all the issues amicably in order to ensure victory for the party during the 2027 general election.
“It is our collective responsibility to take the Labour Party to greater heights, so I would like to use this opportunity to call on all aggrieved party members and intending members of the party to sheath their swords and join hands with the Abure administration to build our party as we prepare to rescue Nigeria during the 2027 general election,” he said.
