The Nigeria Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) has commissioned a block of four classrooms in Yola.
Performing the commissioning ceremony at the 23 Brigade, Gibson Jalo Cantonment Yola, yesterday, President of the association, Mrs Mernan Femi Oluyede, commended the 23rd Brigade for keying into NAOWA’s vision of providing welfare to the children of officers, soldiers, and the host community through education.
Represented by the chairperson of the 3 Division chapter of the association, Mrs Fibishola Abubakar, the President stressed the need to have a very good start in education, which is the bedrock of success in life.
“It is our desire to provide good and quality education for the children of our officers and soldiers who left the home to secure our dear country, as well as contributing to the development of our host communities.”
While commending the zonal coordinator of NAOWA, Mrs Comfort Zawaya, for ensuring that the building meets standards, she urged those who are going to be managing the school and the pupils to make the best use of the facility.
In his remarks, the Commander of the 23 Brigade, Brigadier General Paul Zawaya, said the best legacy that can be given to society is education, noting that his command keys into the Nigeria Army’s vision of giving welfare to its officers, soldiers, and host community through quality education for their families.
He commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Olufemi Oluyede, for providing the needed support in achieving this success.
Earlier, in her welcome remarks, the zonal coordinator of NAOWA, who is the wife of the Brigade Commander of the 23 Brigade, Mrs Comfort Zawaya, thanked the chairperson of the 3 Division chapter for giving her all the needed moral support and encouragement while the project was ongoing.
“I am fulfilled that this project, which started about six months ago, is completely ready and it’s being commissioned today.”
“I want to thank all those who made this dream of mine a reality: the Nigeria Army, NAOWA President, the chairperson of the 3 Division chapter, the cantonment maintenance officer, and particularly my dear family whose time I consumed while this project was ongoing.”
The inaugurated one block of four classrooms has an office for the head teacher, washrooms for the pupils and teachers, with tables and chairs for both teachers and the pupils.
The classrooms also have learning visual and non-visual aids.
