The meeting was organized at the instance of Captain Sule to enlighten NANS on a petition over alleged total derailing and misappropriation of funds at NIOMR written by the organisation.
The Executive Director availed the NANS members of his priority programmes that include safety, security, cleanliness, digital transformation, quality service and Marine Environmental Sustainability, saying all are for immediate implementation.
He expressed the desire to see NIOMR becoming one of the leading federal government agencies in the country just as he identified the need for collaboration and partnership with NANS to achieve the set goals.
Expounding on what he called his unblemished record of accountability and integrity, the ED said he has ensured strict and prudent utilization of the agency’s resources to meet the needs of the country.
Responding to the presentation made by the ED, Uthman said, “We are happy to see the level of rational exploitation of marine resources and conservation for sustainable development and a healthy marine environment under Captain Sule Abiodun leadership.
“You have approached accountability and management with a deep sense of responsibility with the distribution and biology of aquatic resources in Nigerian brackish and marine water.
“When a government agency or MDA does what is wrong, we as students bodies will serve as whistleblowers, but what is happening in NIOMR is impressive, outstanding and exemplary,” the NANS Senate Clerk said.
“The desire to do good is transparent. We can all see it. So, why won’t we have confidence in the system? No more fighting. This is the time for partnership and collaborations,” Uthman added.
