The Lagos State Government says it has disbursed over N391m to the families of about 164 state employees who had passed away while in service in one year.

The state promised to keep putting the needs of people at the grassroots at the centre of its developmental strategies.

The state’s Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Bolaji Robert, stated this on Monday while outlining the accomplishments of the ministry during the previous year.

Robert added that the state had dedicated substantial resources to providing insurance payments to the families of deceased local government officials and the State Universal Basic Education Staff in a statement signed by the ministry’s Assistant Director, Public Affairs Unit, Adebayo Kehinde.

He noted that the state had continued to engage critical stakeholders in the development of the grassroots, adding that the engagement “has yielded developments at the grassroots and has culminated in the ongoing rural-urban renewal projects, which have aided in reducing rural-urban migration.”

“One of these efforts is the two-day capacity-building workshop the ministry recently organised for 376 councillors across the councils, which is part of the state government’s role in improving the law-making capacity of councillors across the 57 councils.”
