Renowned Nigerian musician Onyeka Onwenu, fondly known as the “Elegant Stallion,” was laid to rest in Lagos today, August 30th.
Videos of her burial ceremony quickly spread across social media, evoking strong emotions from fans and followers.
The music icon passed away on July 30, 2024, after collapsing at an event held in honor of Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She was pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, at the age of 72.

Onyeka Onwenu’s legacy in the music industry is profound, with her contributions deeply cherished by many. Her influence extended beyond music; she was also a celebrated actress with numerous Nollywood films to her credit.
In addition to her artistic achievements, Onyeka Onwenu ventured into politics, running twice for the position of Local Council Chairman of Ideato North Local Government Area in Imo State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Her funeral service was held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi.
The funeral program indicated that the Service of Songs was conducted from 10 am to 12 noon, with the burial taking place from 2 pm to 4 pm.
A video capturing the moment when her remains were carried in a white coffin, surrounded by her family and close friends, went viral online, touching the hearts of many who admired her.
