In a remarkable show of gratitude and admiration, civil servants from the Federal Ministry of Works, Mabushi-Abuja, gathered to honour and celebrate the Honourable Minister of Works, Sen Engr Nweze David Umahi, for his exceptional leadership and commitment to their welfare.
Under the umbrella of the Joint Union, Federal Ministry of Works, over 1500 workers surprised the Honourable Minister on Tuesday, 20th February 2024, expressing their appreciation for his dedication to their well-being since assuming office.
The Minister, known for his unassuming nature, received a ‘Pragmatic Leadership Award’ from the Joint Union, highlighting his outstanding leadership qualities. The workers, in a display of affection, danced with the Minister, describing his leadership style as unprecedented in the history of the Federal Ministry of Works.
Expressing his gratitude during the event, Minister Umahi thanked the workers for the surprise reception and the honour bestowed upon him. He pledged to continue serving with a deep sense of responsibility and collaboration with the workforce.
Umahi announced initiatives aimed at enhancing the workers’ welfare, including training programs for those from grade level 14 and above, the establishment of a Ministry Welfare Fund effective March 2024, and staff involvement in monitoring and evaluating nationwide projects.
He also revealed plans to reactivate the Ministry’s whistleblowers’ desk to ensure adherence to project specifications. Umahi urged civil servants across the country to prioritise national interests in their public duties, emphasising the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to address socio-economic challenges.
In response, the Permanent Secretary praised Minister Umahi’s professional and administrative capacities, describing him as a super-intelligent, action-packed, and vision-driven leader who values the potential of the workers.
Presenting the award of honour, the Chairman of the Joint Union commended the Minister for his compassionate leadership, dedication to welfare, and commitment to project excellence. He lauded Umahi’s hands-on approach, emphasising his punctuality, dedication to project supervision, and swift response to official matters.
In a closing vote of thanks, the Director of Human Resources expressed appreciation for the Minister’s selfless service and inclusive leadership, praying for continued prosperity and benevolence as Umahi works towards fulfilling the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Works.
