Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has commended the Vice Chancellor and management of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences (FUAHS) Enugu, for the unprecedented infrastructural and academic transformation witnessed in the school within the shortest time.
The Minister gave the commendation in Abuja, when he hosted the officials of the school led by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Emaimo.
He said he was impressed with the visible transformation, academically and otherwise, he witnessed when he visited the school recently, describing it as an indication that the school was ready to commence admission of new students in the new academic year.
He appealed to the school management to sustain the momentum, and ensure that continued expansion of the scope of academic programme of the school, with a particular focus on allied health programs to address Nigeria’s need for more manpower in the sector.
He told the school management that approval for the establishment of the school, being the first tertiary health and educational institution in the region demonstrates President Tinubu’s detribalised approach to governance, and dedication to improving healthcare and education infrastructure across the country.
He added; “This historic decision underscored his belief in the importance of investing in all parts and regions of Nigeria, regardless of political affiliations or voting patterns. The establishment of the University of Allied Health Sciences in Enugu is not only a significant milestone for the eastern region but also a testament to Tinubu’s vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria where every citizen has access to quality education and healthcare services.”
Dr. Alausa praised the VC for his efforts in transforming the institution from a College of Dental Technology and Therapy to a degree awarding university approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He urged him to continue expanding the scope of academic programs, with a particular focus on allied health programs to address Nigeria’s need for more manpower in the sector.
The minister further assured Prof. Emaimo of the Ministry’s full support in realizing President Tinubu’s vision for the university.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom, also congratulated Prof. Emaimo and the entire university community for the level of infrastructure development achieved under his leadership. She lauded the Vice Chancellor’s determination for success, describing it as a positive sign for the health sector’s future.
In his remarks, the Acting VC said the visit was part of the university’s efforts to present a brief of the transition committee and submit the foundational documents required to kickstart operations
He informed the Minister that the school is ready to commence admission of new students in about 20 courses, in line with quota from the relevant regulatory bodies.
He reassured him that FUAHS Enugu was on track to commence operations by September for the upcoming academic session, pledging to uphold the standards of excellence set by the ministry and to prioritize allied health programs in the university’s curriculum.
