The military high command has expressed optimism that the 2025 budget defence will yield substantial allocations to bolster its fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges plaguing the country.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, made this known during a regimental dinner night held in Abuja, on Monday.
The event was part of activities marking the 2025 Armed Forces Day celebration, dedicated to honouring the nation’s heroes and fallen soldiers.
Musa stated that there was a need for
enhanced funding to sustain ongoing efforts by the Armed Forces to secure peace and stability across all regions of the country.
“We are optimistic as we approach the budget defence. We expect a bountiful harvest from the National Assembly to support our fight against insecurity,” Musa said.
The defence chief also paid tributes to the courage and resilience of troops, acknowledging the sacrifices made by fallen heroes and their families.
He also lauded the efforts of serving officers and veterans, describing them as the embodiment of discipline, dedication, and excellence.
“Tonight, we honour the memories of our departed heroes who have laid down their lives for our country and celebrate the bravery of our officers who continue to defend the nation. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he added.
Musa called for collective national efforts to address the country’s challenges, urging unity and collaboration across all sectors.
He also highlighted the importance of recognizing and appreciating the contributions of veterans and active service members, stating, “While we honour our fallen heroes, it is equally important to celebrate those who are alive and continue to serve with distinction.”
