Many soldiers attached to the Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu in Lagos are feared dead, and others were injured after a suspected drunk driver rammed into them.
Witnesses told Daily Sun that the driver rammed into the soldiers during their monthly route march outside the barracks in the early hours of Friday.
The witness who wants to be identified only as Adewale and resides within the vicinity said the Toyota vehicle had three young men as the occupants, running at full speed before ramming into the soldiers.
Adewale said after the accident, the young men attempted to flee but were apprehended and beaten to pulp while their vehicle was vandalised.
When contacted, the spokesman for the Army in Lagos Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni confirmed the incident by said that a statement would be issued by the force shortly.
Already, he said that investigations are on to ascertain the motive and number of casualties.
