The operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on Saturday were said to have arrested a young man, Awolesi Precious on January 1 around Zoo area of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta for alleged theft of N1.2m Firman generator as well as a 50-inch and 32-inch televisions, packs of malts, beverages, assorted wines and liquours among others valued at over N6m.

The command Spokesman, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Saturday.

Odutola said that Precious had allegedly claimed to have rented the generator found with him for N12000 from a sound engineer for an event planned for that day.

The suspect was however said to have later admitted to have stolen the generator among other household items such as televisions, assorted wines and liquors, pack of malts and beverages valued at over N6m from Chilbay Entertainment Lounge, where a burglary had taken place previously.

The statement partly  reads “On January 1, 2025, at about 3:00 AM, during a midnight patrol, an individual named Awolesi Precious, a male from the Zoo area, was apprehended while transporting a large Firman generator valued at ₦1,200,000 along the street.

“When questioned about the generator, he claimed he had rented it from a sound engineer for ₦12,500 to use at an event planned for later that day.

“In an attempt to mislead the police, Precious provided false information regarding his situation but eventually admitted to stealing the generator from Chilbay Entertainment Lounge, where a burglary had taken place previously.

“Among the various items stolen were four 32-inch televisions and one 50-inch television, assorted wines and liquors valued at about six million (₦6,000,000, )several packs of malts , beverages, energy drinks, and a microwave oven.

“Recognizing the severity of the burglary, a search warrant was promptly executed at the suspect’s residence, where all the aforementioned items were discovered, with the exception of the televisions.

“The Divisional Crime Branch is continuing its investigation, and the suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is concluded”.
