A 26-year-old man, Ogechukwu Anayo, who allegedly stole iPhone screens worth N4.5 million, on Friday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Anayo is standing trial before Magistrate L.K.J Layeni, on a one-count charge of stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 27, 2025, at the Alaba International Market in Ojo.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that he alleged that the defendant stole four cartons of iPhone screens belonging to one Mr Chinedu Ume-Uzeoke, a trader at the Alaba International Market.
Uche said the screens were valued at N4.5 million.
The prosecutor said the defendant was eventually arrested by the police following investigation.
The offence contravenes the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, the prosecutor added.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until May 7, 2025, for hearing.
