Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has charged Course 7 Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) from the state to be exemplary officers and agents of positive change in the Nigerian Police Force.
He issued this charge during a courtesy visit by the 39 cadets to the governor’s office at the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Ibadan on Monday, 2nd April.
The governor emphasised the importance of integrity, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He urged the cadets to distinguish themselves in their service to the nation by upholding the values of justice and fairness, particularly at a time when public confidence in law enforcement is crucial.
Makinde expressed his pride in the Cadet ASPs and encouraged them to uphold professionalism and discipline in their duties.
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to create a safe and secure environment for residents, emphasising that security remains a top priority in his governance agenda.
Referencing the two retired Commissioners of Police in his government, Compol Fatai Owoseni and Sunday Odukoya, as exemplary ambassadors of the Nigerian Police, Makinde urged the Cadet ASPs to emulate the duo in order to build illustrious careers in their profession.
He pledged to monitor the development process of the cadet ASPs in the Police Force and encouraged them to remain good ambassadors of the state as they prepare to begin their careers.
“Let me say this: I’ve worked with great minds within the police. So, when the opportunity came and my ADC told me I had to meet the cadet ASPs, I said yes! I’d like to meet them before they go into the thick of their careers.”
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola, who led the delegation, commended Governor Makinde for his continuous support for security agencies, especially the police in the state.
He disclosed that the Cadet ASPs were in the state for their mandatory internship training to acquire the necessary skills to understand the workings of the police force.
He noted that the state government’s initiatives, including logistics support, equipment procurement, and welfare packages for security personnel, have significantly enhanced the operational efficiency of law enforcement in the state.
CP Adenola further assured the governor of the State Police Command’s commitment to upholding peace and security within Oyo State, while acknowledging the positive impact of the state government’s interventions in boosting officers’ morale and ensuring a safer society.
Earlier, Cadet ASP Theophilus Adeniran, speaking on behalf of the other cadets, expressed their appreciation for the governor’s support and pledged to be dedicated officers who would make a positive impact in the Nigerian Police Force.
Present at the courtesy visit were the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; Chief of Staff to the governor, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi; State Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni (Mni); Special Adviser on Security Matters to the governor, Compol Fatai Owoseni; and the immediate past Commissioner of Police in the state, Compol Ayodele Sonubi.
