The Tijjaniyyah movement in Nigeria has announced adjustments to its leadership structure, stating that the changes aim to strengthen the Islamic order in Nigeria, foster unity, and enhance the movement globally.
Khalifa Sheikh Mahy Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse, in a statement, explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and senior scholars (Sheikhs). It was endorsed by members of the movement who participated in the recently concluded Mawlid celebrations, which saw global participation from Tijjaniyyah adherents.
In the statement, the Khalifa announced the unanimous decision to discontinue the Office of Khalifa in Nigeria, a decision he said aligned with the return of Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II to the throne of the Kano Emirate.
He further stated that the National Mawlid celebrations of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse in Nigeria will now be under the direct leadership of Sheikh Mahy Niasse.
“He will work closely with other Sheikhs and Muqaddams to ensure the event continues to serve as a unifying and spiritual milestone for the Tijjaniyyah movement,” he said.
Regarding the oversight of the Tijjaniyyah movement in Nigeria, the Khalifa explained that its affairs will continue to be guided and counselled by two highly revered scholars, Sheikh Tahir Usman Bauchi and Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh Al-Husaini. He expressed confidence in their scholarship, wisdom, and dedication to providing steady leadership for the Tijjaniyyah community, as they have done over the years.
The Khalifa also announced the establishment of a World Tijjaniyyah Assembly, describing it as a bold step towards fostering global unity. To this end, an international office has been set up to facilitate the formation of the Assembly.
He said that through this office, the proposed Assembly will provide a platform for collaboration among Tijjaniyyah Sheikhs worldwide. The Assembly will also work to strengthen and enhance international ties between the Tijjaniyyah movement and other organisations.
The Khalifa stated that these resolutions mark a new and significant chapter for the Tijjaniyyah movement globally.
He congratulated all Muslims on the Mawlid celebrations and called on the Tijjaniyyah community to remain united and committed to the collective mission of the movement.
He prayed that God guide all members of the Tijjaniyyah movement in implementing the resolutions for the benefit of the Tijjaniyyah community and the Ummah at large.
