As part of ongoing rescue operations following the flood disaster in Maiduguri and its surrounding areas, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Lawal Yusuf, has restricted movement on the collapsed Lagos Bridge.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that the CP visited the collapsed bridge on Saturday to assess the level of damage and explore possible mitigation strategies.
The Supervising Police Public Relations Officer for the North-East, SP Ahmed Wakil in a statement issued on Saturday revealed that the decision followed a technical assessment by specialists who revealed potential risks if the remaining part of the bridge is overwhelmed by heavy weights.
“The commissioner directed the officers and men on duty to carry out their tasks with professionalism, while also ensuring the protection of citizens’ fundamental human rights.
“CP Mohammed Lawal Yusuf expressed his sympathies to those affected by the disaster and called for public cooperation during this challenging period,” the statement added.
