From Abel Leonard, Lafia
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has strongly condemned a recent military raid on its Nasarawa State headquarters in Lafia, which resulted in the arrest of some members and the seizure of valuables, including over one million naira in cash.
The state chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Bala Mohammed Dabo, made this known during a press briefing in Lafia on Wednesday, stated that military personnel stormed the association’s office, cordoning off the area before making arrests and confiscating valuable items.
According to Alhaji Bala, the head of the military special forces in Doma later admitted that the raid was a result of faulty intelligence. The military had reportedly been tracking a suspect whose signal led them to MACBAN’s office, but further investigations revealed it was a mistake.
“We cannot tolerate such acts of embarrassment,” Alhaji Bala said. “If the military fails to apologize and return our money, we will seek legal redress.”
He added that the Nasarawa State government, the state police commissioner, and MACBAN’s national secretariat had been notified of the development.
Attempts to get a response from the military special forces in Doma were unsuccessful at the time of this report. However, normalcy has since returned to MACBAN’s office in Lafia.
