Lower Niger River Basin authority set to reposition mandate of food abundance, security

Newly appointed management team of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA), Ilorin, led by the managing director, Engineer Olusola George-Olumoroti, has promised to reposition the Authority to her original mandate of ensuring food abundance and food security for the nation within one year of his tenure.

It is recalled that President Bola Tinubu approved the reconstitution of management of the 12 River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs), three months ago.

Addressing workers of the establishment, who had organized a rousing welcome, the managing director also promised to resuscitate the moribund water factory and the Basin farms to ensure their optimum utilization.

The new MD, who pledged to prioritize staff welfare, however, informed the workers on the need for them to ensure an increased productivity.

Olumoroti also thanked the staff for a rousing welcome, urging them not to see him and his team as outsiders, but rather as part of them.

He said that he has come to contribute his best to President Tinubu’s vision for a better Nigeria as a trained engineer, with over two decades of working experience with both NNPC and Exon Mobil.

“I shall deploy my wealth of experience to add my quota to Mr. President’s vision for a renewed Nigeria. I shall be on the field where and when necessary to see things for myself to make sure that Basin becomes an activity hub that will benefit the staff, management, Nigeria and our host community”.

Also, speaking, the chairman of the board, Alhaji Abdulateef Gidado Alakawa, expressed hope of a successful tenure for the new management, saying that they were selectively appointed from various professional spectra.

He urged the new team to focus on creation of wealth while focusing on synergy with the state government for delivery of the mandate of the authority.

The outgoing executive director Planning and Design Services, Engineer Oyedeji Abdulrasheed, advised the new MD to filter pieces of advice, urging him to be wary of internal politics of the Basin.

Engineer Olumoroti later took facility tour around the Authority to know what is on ground.
