Lobi Stars have debunked claims by Bayelsa United on plans to influence the Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 27 fixture between both teams.
The Director of Media, Emmanuel Uja, stated in a release that the claims by Bayelsa United is unprofessional and an act of defamation on Lobi Stars.
Uja urged the league body to caution Bayelsa United and post a fine on the club for moves to bring the game to disrepute.
The Pride of Benue will host Bayelsa United at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday.
The statement reads, “We regret to read the subject above by the management of Bayelsa United. A blackmail, defamation of our Football Club status, and unprofessional attitude by Bayelsa United.”
“It is on record that the Lafia City Stadium is one of the most peaceful venues in the NPFL. We have hosted Kano Pillars where we dropped home points, Rivers United who gave us a good fight, Shooting Stars, Rangers International, Sporting Laos, and other clubs without any rancour after the game.
“Lobi Stars have no reason to plot evil against Bayelsa United, a club they had beaten convincingly away from home.
“What our Football Club stands for is symbolic of the aims and objectives of the League Body and our CEO and Vice Chairman, Mr. Dominic Iorfa has demonstrated the spirit of our sportsmanship to all our visitors.
“It is sad that despite the efforts of the League Body to rebrand the League there are unprofessional clubs like Bayelsa United doing everything to bring the game into disrepute.
“The League Body should caution Bayelsa United and post a fine for bringing the game into disrepute. The League Body must protect the image of the League at all times.”
