The debate surrounding the minimum wage has persisted since its inception in the late century. Many economists view it as a detrimental policy, impacting both employers and workers, a viewpoint with which we tend to concur.

Here are five countries, including Nigeria, with relatively low minimum wages:

Nigeria:

As of my last update, Nigeria had one of the lowest minimum wages globally, set at around ₦30,000 ($77) per month.

Bangladesh:

Bangladesh has one of the lowest minimum wages in Asia, with workers in the garment industry often earning around $95 per month.

Pakistan

The minimum wage in Pakistan varies by province but generally ranges from around PKR 17,500 to PKR 20,000 ($110 to $125) per month.

India

India’s minimum wage varies widely across states and industries, but it is generally low, with some states setting it as low as around INR 7,000 to INR 9,000 ($95 to $120) per month.

Indonesia

Indonesia’s minimum wage also varies by region but tends to be relatively low, with some areas setting it at around IDR 3,000,000 to IDR 4,000,000 ($210 to $280) per month.
