The Plateau State Government has extended the public holiday for the ongoing local government election to Thursday.
A statement on Wednesday issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau said the extension of the public holiday to Thursday is to enable those who travelled to return.
It read, “His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang has approved that Thursday,b10th October 2024 be declared as a public holiday to enable citizens who traveled for the Local Government Elections to return.
“The Executive Governor further thanks citizens for their peaceful conduct during the exercise”
Election which began late on Wednesday in most polling units also witnessed technical hitches across the LGAs.
The development forced the electoral body to extend the voting hours from 3 pm to 5 pm
On Monday, Mutfwang declared Wednesday, October 9, as a work-free day to allow citizens to participate in the local government elections.
The governor also declared Tuesday as a half-work day in preparation for the poll.
