Lord Cameron: Fresh strikes against Houthis sends ‘clearest possible message’
Lord Cameron said last night’s second round of air strikes against Houthi rebels showed the UK is willing to “back our words and our warnings with action”.
The Foreign Secretary told broadcasters this morning: “Since we last took action 10 days ago there have been over 12 attacks on shipping by the Houthis in the Red Sea.
“These attacks are illegal, they are unacceptable and what we have done again is send the clearest possible message that we will continue to degrade their ability to carry out these attacks whilst sending the clearing possible message that we back our words and our warnings with action.”
Poll: Less than half of 2019 Conservatives currently intend to back the Tories
Less than half of 2019 Conservative voters say they currently intend to vote for the party as the Tories bleed support to Labour and Reform UK.
A new Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey found that just 47 per cent of voters who backed the Conservatives at the last general election intend to do so again.
Some 19 per cent said they would vote for Labour if the election was held tomorrow and 18 per cent said Reform UK. The poll was conducted on January 21.
Backing for the Tories was down by three points while support for Labour was up by five points and up by three points for Reform UK when compared to the company’s previous poll conducted on January 14.
The numbers highlight the scale of the challenge facing Rishi Sunak as he seeks to reverse Tory fortunes and steer the party to its fifth general election victory in a row.
