Leicester City supporters turned on their faltering team after the club’s automatic promotion push suffered a major setback against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Boos filled the air on the final whistle and travelling fans voiced their frustration with a series of derogatory chants questioning capabilities of players and management alike.
Many also vented their fury as Leicester players headed over to the Atyeo Stand to acknowledge the backing of the 3,000-plus fans who travelled to the West Country.
Anis Mehmeti’s excellent second-half goal condemned Leicester to a fourth defeat in six outings which, combined with Ipswich’s win at Blackburn, saw the visitors fall out of the automatic promotion places.
Afterwards, Leicester manager Enzo Maresca appealed for the fans to rally behind his team as the promotion race intensifies.
“I think the reaction from them is quite normal,” Maresca said. “You can understand. The only thing I can say is that, especially in this moment, we need them.
“They have been brilliant until today and we need them until the end. The pressure builds or grows when you are at the end of the season, especially in this moment and we drop points.
“The table is so close, the pressure can build a little bit, but it’s also normal.”
