Lagos unveils 3,941 new parking slots to curb traffic, illegal parking

The Lagos State Government has unveiled 3,941 new parking slots across strategic locations in a bid to ease traffic congestion and curb illegal roadside parking.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during a media briefing commemorating the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

According to Osiyemi, the initiative forms a critical part of the state’s comprehensive traffic management strategy aimed at offering structured parking alternatives and minimizing the disruptions caused by indiscriminate parking.

“The new parking facilities are designed to accommodate thousands of vehicles, offering safe, organized spaces that support smoother traffic flow,” he explained.

To enhance effectiveness, the state has been divided into five key parking zones; Ikeja, Ikoyi, Lekki, Victoria Island, and Surulere, allowing targeted management of parking challenges and enforcement in each area.

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), the body responsible for regulating and monitoring parking activities, will oversee the management and enforcement of the new parking system.

The government has installed 669 parking signages along major roads to guide motorists to designated areas, promoting easier access and encouraging voluntary compliance.

Osiyemi urged residents to embrace the new facilities and warned against flouting parking regulations, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility, infrastructure development, and the overall quality of life in Lagos.
