Lagos political cartel misleading Tinubu to relocate CBN, FAAN units — Ndume

Ali Ndume, the Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has berated the recent plan to relocate key departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos State.

The Senator, who stated that Lagos is neither the whole of Nigeria nor its federal capital, added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is being misinformed and misled by some “Lagos boys”.

Ndume, while speaking on a Channels Television interview on Tuesday, expressed confidence in the President to reverse the decision. According to him, President Tinubu is a nationalist and not Lagos man, adding that Nigeria can’t have two capitals.

He said, “We only have one Federal Capital and that is Abuja. All these Lagos boys that are thinking that Lagos is Nigeria are just misinforming and advising the President wrongly.

“The regulators of the financial institutions are supposed to be or are in Abuja. Do you want them to move back because you say Lagos is the commercial capital?

“This is one of the mistakes and I’m sure Mr President will reverse it because it doesn’t work. You can’t have two capitals.”

Continuing, the Senator queried the motive behind relocating CBN departments to Lagos because it’s the commercial capital and NNPCL is not relocated to the South-South where most of the crude oil is obtained.

“Is the CBN governor going to be operating from Lagos? Or do you now say that because the majority of our oil is extracted from South-South, you take NNPC to South-South?

“Or is it because Nigeria’s agriculture is more in the North, you take Ministry of Agric to anywhere in the North? It doesn’t work that way,” he added.

Speaking further, the Borno South Senator, expressed readiness to take action if the President fails to reverse the decision. He added that such relocation will have political consequences.

“Those political cartels that are in the corridors of power are trying to misinform the President and we will tell the President. The President will take action.

“They are not doing any favour to Mr President because this will have political consequences,” he warned.
