The Lagos State Government has banned the use and distribution of Styrofoam and other single-use plastics within the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner of Environment and Works, Tokunbo Wahab.
According to Wahab, the decision was reached following the menace which single use plastics, especially the non-biodegradable Styrofoam was causing in the environment.
Arogidigba Global Journal recalls that the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency had in 2022 decried the increasing use of single-use plastics, pet bottles, polystyrene and other non-biodegradable wastes across the state.
The agency advocated for suitable and multiple-use alternatives in a bid to prevent pollution and avoid disposal problems in the state.
