The Kogi State House of Assembly has approved the recruitment of 1,050 hunters to bolster the security framework of the state.
The Assembly granted the approval during a plenary session held on Wednesday in Lokoja.
The request was made via a letter from the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Salami Ozigi Deedat, who sought permission to recruit 50 hunters for each of the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.
After the letter was read in the chamber, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, noted that the lawmakers had previously resolved that due to the security challenges in the state and the shortage of manpower, there was a need for such recruitment.
The legislators unanimously approved the recruitment in a voice vote, stipulating that the salaries of the hunters would be managed by the Caretaker Chairmen of the Local Governments.
