A total of 1,700 primary school pupils from Gwandu Emirate Primary School in Birnin-Kebbi have received gifts from the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi State, during its inaugural charity outreach to primary schools throughout the state.
While presenting the items to the pupils, Earnest Ihejerika Ejike, the Controller of Customs for Kebbi State Command, stated that the gifts are part of the Customs’ corporate social responsibility to the local community.
He explained that the purpose of the visit was to engage with the pupils, inform them about the role of Customs, and emphasize the importance of understanding the laws of the land and recognizing Customs’ contributions to the national economy.
The Controller also encouraged the pupils to remind their families that every responsible citizen should pay their taxes, which help the government fund the construction of schools across the country.
“We are here to give you a little token as part of our corporate responsibility and to tell you the work of Customs which include collecting revenues and stopping smuggling into the country, you all know that Kebbi is a borderline state therefore our work here is inevitable.“ He told the pupils.

Earlier, the headmaster of the school, Malam Aminu Sani in his response thanked officers of the Nigeria Customs for the charity visit and urged them to sustain the tempo, adding that the gesture would portray them as humane and responsible organisation with compassion, which will as well encourage the pupils to join Customs Service after school.
Emir of Gwandu, represented by the emirate council member, Alhaji Ibrahim Bashar described the kind gesture as timely saying the charity visit will open the eyes of the pupils to see and know the existence of Customs in their domain.
“They will no longer fear Customs because they can testify to the fact that they have human hearts and are lovers of education and the emir of Gwandu Alhaji Iliyasu Bashar is pleased with the visit and send his blessings to the entire Customs in Kebbi Command.” He said.
