The Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA), in line with its mandate to bring healthcare delivery to all citizens in the state, distributed drugs and other medical consumables to Primary Health Care Centres (PHCC) and higher institutions earlier in the week.
KECHEMA, through its introduction of the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Programme, aims to provide comprehensive health insurance coverage to students and staff of tertiary institutions in the state.
In line with its mandate, the Agency distributed drugs and medical consumables to 20 best-performing Primary Care Providers who excelled in discharging KECHEMA programmes.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr Jaafar Muhammad Augie, the new scheme is a state health insurance programme aimed at strengthening the state primary healthcare system, particularly in school clinics located within state-owned tertiary educational institutions.
In an interview with newsmen, the Executive Secretary of KECHEMA, Dr Jaafar Muhammad Augie, described the programme as an innovation designed to promote universal health coverage, reduce out-of-pocket expenses, and improve healthcare services among the beneficiary population.
Earlier, in her remarks while presenting the drugs to the benefiting healthcare facilities, the wife of the State Governor, Hajia Nafisat Nasir Idris, applauded the efforts of the Kebbi State Government in prioritising healthcare services in the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Yunusa Ismail, praised the Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) for its foresight and collaborative effort in selecting 20 out of 161 PHCC as best-performing healthcare centres in the state.
The Primary Health Care Centre in Kangiwa, Suru, Andarai, and MCH Tudun Wada Birnin Kebbi were among the facilities recognised for their exceptional performance.
