The people of Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State have commended Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, for the swift action taken by joint security forces to fish out the new Islamic sect, “Lakurawa”.
The chairman, Augie local government, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed Augie, made this known in Birnin Kebbi while addressing journalists on the new development in their area.
He appreciated the support given to the security agencies by the state governor which he said, “is now yielding the desired results.”
The chairman also commended the efforts of the Nigeria Army and other security agencies for their galant efforts to arrest and prosecute the suspected terrorists.
It could be recalled that some suspected terrorists named “Lakurawa” had on Friday attacked Mera community in Augie Local Government Area, when Muslims in the community were preparing for Jumuat prayer.
The group, suspected to have infiltrated into Nigeria from Mali through Niger Republic, killed 17 people in the community in the Friday attack.
On his part, AbdurRahman Zagga, Director, Security, Cabinet Office, Birnin Kebbi, confirmed that joint security forces were already in the bush trailing the culprits.
The director appreciated the efforts of His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, for providing all the necessary logistic support to the security agencies to ensure success of the operation.
He said that a meeting was held with all the chairmen of the affected Local Government, security agencies, traditional and community leaders yesterday with a view to providing lasting solution to the state.
Zagga also lauded His Excellency Comrade Dr Nasir Idris for sending a powerful delegation to the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, who swiftly sent troops to Kebbi to fish out the new Islamic sect, “Lakurawa”.
“We are happy, the delegation sent to the CDS by His Excellency, Dr Nasir Idris is yielding fruitful results. The military troops with other security agencies are currently in the bush pursuing the suspected terrorists where some stolen cows were recovered.
“The troops arrived yesterday, together with their colleagues from Dukku barracks in Birnin Kebbi, have immediately swung into action.
“By the grace of God they will succeed in fishing out the culprits and bringing them to book. Kebbi Government will not rest until these people are brought to account,” Zagga assured.
