The Katsina State Police Command has arrested two suspected car thieves and rejected a ₦1 million bribe allegedly offered by the suspects to evade arrest.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the suspects — 26-year-old Mubarak Kabir and 27-year-old Adamu Hashim, both from Kurna quarters in Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State — were apprehended by officers on routine patrol along Birnin Kuka village in Mashi Local Government Area on April 11, 2025.

The suspects were found driving a green Toyota Corolla LE, which was later determined to have been stolen from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“Upon interception, a preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen. The suspects attempted to bribe the patrol officers with ₦1,000,000 in cash, which was firmly rejected,” DSP Sadiq stated.

Items recovered from the suspects included the stolen vehicle, ₦1 million in cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and a set of keys.

The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of their criminal activities.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, commended the officers for their integrity and professionalism, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while upholding the rule of law and human rights.
