The newly appointed Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs of Kano State, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who assumed office on Monday, has promised to foster effective collaboration with journalists for the free flow of information on government activities across the state and beyond.
In his inaugural address, Comrade Waiya pledged to foster a collaborative relationship with journalists in the state, emphasising the importance of accurate and effective dissemination of government policies and programmes.
He further stated that he would prioritise the welfare of the Ministry’s staff to boost their morale and ensure better service delivery.
Waiya added that he would also focus on capacity building for staff to equip them with the necessary skills to perform their duties effectively.
The new Commissioner reiterated his determination to do everything possible to support the state government by ensuring the proper dissemination of information about its activities.
Waiya also highlighted the significant role of Civil Society Organisations in promoting good governance and assured continued collaboration with them to achieve this goal.
He solicited the full support and cooperation of the Ministry’s staff to enhance service delivery and meet the Ministry’s mandate.
He officially took over the mantle of leadership at the state Ministry of Information shortly after being sworn in at the Ante Chamber, Government House, Kano.
The assumption of duty ceremony, which was held at the Ministry’s headquarters, was marked by a symbolic handover from the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Adamu Bala Muhammad.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Adamu Bala Muhammad, congratulated Comrade Waiya on his appointment.
He reaffirmed the readiness of the Ministry’s staff to work diligently with the new Commissioner, urging them to provide maximum support to ensure effective service delivery.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by the management staff, Heads of Agencies under the Ministry, friends, relatives, and well-wishers.
Before his appointment, Comrade Waiya was a renowned activist and Civil Society Organisation leader.
He was recently decorated as a Fellow of the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies.
The prestigious award was conferred on him during the Security Excellence Award National Programme of the Investiture of Fellows, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja.
Comrade Waiya, before his latest appointment, was also the Executive Director of Citizens for Development and Education (CDE); Convener/Head of the Secretariat of the Kano Peace Committee (KPC); and Convener of the Nigeria for Peace Project (N4P).
