Kano State government has set up an independent commission of inquiry to investigate the killings and destruction of public and private properties during the ongoing protest in the state..
This was disclosed on Monday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa during a press briefing at the Government House.
Sanusi disclosed that the establishment of the commission was in response to numerous calls from well meaning Nigerians, including the international community, human rights organisations, civil society, traditional and religious leaders.
According to him, the government was aware of the recent unfortunate incident whereby some hoodlums disrupted the protest in the state leading to vandalization of public and private properties, as well as maiming, injuring, and killing of innocent citizens in the state
He regretted that some unpatriotic politicians were determined to create chaos in the state for their selfish interests and declared that anyone found to have undermined the peace and stability of the state would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
“While the government continues to monitor the situation closely, it is important to note that Kano is gradually returning to normalcy, he claimed
” However, we will not take anything for granted, as the government remains proactive on matters related to the security of lives and properties of its citizens” he affirmed.
