Kano state governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, in his determination to make women self-reliant, has launched an empowerment program for 1,028 women across 44 local governments of the state.
Each of the women was given a sum of N20,000 to start a small-scale business as a measure to pave the way for them in their business activities.
However, this information was contained in a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson to the Kano State Governor, which was made available to the press on Monday in Kano.
While launching the program at Government House, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the financial support was specifically designed to enable women to stand on their own feet.
According to him, “We want our women to thrive economically and be self-reliant. By providing this grant, we encourage them to invest wisely and contribute to their families and communities.”
“The initiative aims to empower women economically and foster self-reliance, aligning with the spirit of International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8.”
He assured that the program would be a regular occurrence, adding that “Every month, we will continue to extend our support to the women of Kano.”
As these women receive their grants, Kano takes a step toward gender equality and economic empowerment.
The governor’s commitment to uplifting women underscores the importance of fostering a society where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
