The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, has been released on bail after being detained by the police for hours on Friday.
He was granted bail on self-recognition late Friday night after undergoing interrogation at the Zone One Police Headquarters, Kano.
Rimingado was arrested earlier in the day by a special team from the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
According to his lawyer, Usman Umar Fari, Rimingado was released after three hours of questioning and instructed to report to the IGP’s office in Abuja on Monday for further interrogation.
Reports suggest that the arrest may be tied to a high-profile corruption case involving the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO), Bala Muhammed Inuwa. Inuwa is accused of diverting over N4 billion in public funds.
The trial, which commenced in November 2023 at the Kano High Court presided over by Justice Hafsat Yahaya, has resulted in the seizure of several properties, including bank funds, pending the court’s decision.
In December 2023, Inuwa filed a suit before Justice Aisha Ya’u of another Kano High Court, seeking the withdrawal of police officers stationed at Limestone Processing Links Ltd., where the confiscated assets were being held. Justice Ya’u granted the request, prompting the PCACC to challenge the order.
The commission argued that it should have been included in the proceedings, as it remains the primary authority responsible for the seized properties.
The PCACC has emphasized that the seized properties, valued at over N2 billion, were relocated to a government warehouse in Nasarawa GRA in accordance with Section 40 of the Kano Anti-Corruption Law, which empowers the commission to secure such assets during investigations.
Two weeks ago, Rimingado revealed that the commission had prevented an attempt to move the seized items, which included trailers, trucks, and minivans.
As of the time of this report, efforts to reach Rimingado for comments on the arrest were unsuccessful.
