The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has sealed four hotels in Kafanchan, Jama’ah Local Government Area, due to unpaid taxes amounting to N16.8 million.
KADIRS Chairman, Jerry Adams disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday in Kaduna, following the operations carried out on Wednesday in Kafanchan.
The sealed establishments include Kyus Hotel, Sunshine Lodge, Bayan Hotel, and Cloud-9 Lounge, all of which were allegedly in default of their tax obligations.

Adams explained that the action was taken in accordance with the authority granted to KADIRS under Section 104 (1) and (4) of the Personal Income Tax Act 2011 and Section 37 (3) and (4) of the Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020.
He further noted that a court order had been obtained for the immediate closure and takeover of the properties until all outstanding taxes were paid.
“As a tax body backed by law, we must ensure that all taxes due to the state are paid,” Adams stated.
He expressed concern over the reluctance of some taxpayers to voluntarily comply with tax laws, stressing the importance of revenue for funding essential infrastructure.
Despite the state’s significant debt burden, Adams highlighted the ongoing efforts of the governor to execute substantial projects in education, health, and rural road development.
He urged taxpayers to comply voluntarily, warning that the service would continue to enforce tax laws across major cities to ensure compliance.
However, he also acknowledged the current economic challenges, adding, “We will allow the poor to breathe while focusing on major taxpayers.”
