The Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Commodore Duja Effedua (Rtd) has resigned from office despite having more than a year left to complete his eight-year second term.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune exclusively on Thursday, Commodore Effedua stated that his reasons for tendering his resignation at the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy are personal.
According to the former Maritime Academy Rector, “My reasons are personal, l believe that the time is right to move on.
“l have done what l was asked to do in terms of setting standards at the nation’s premier maritime training institution. It’s best to leave when the ovation is loudest, not when they ask you to leave.”
Recall that while in office, Effedua carried out a comprehensive clean-up of the system, closed financial leakages, improved cadets’ hostels and hitherto poor feeding arrangements, rejigged academic and non-academic staff orientation for positive ends, expanded and refurbished staff quarters, completed abandoned and outstanding projects; and began construction of structures and facilities for enhanced status of the Academy in line with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) standards.
