Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Monday, following allegations of diverting approximately N1.3 trillion in funds.
Okowa, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023 and was a vice-presidential candidate in the last general election, is accused of misappropriating the 13% derivation fund allocated to the oil-rich state from the federation account during his tenure.
It was reported that Okowa was taken into custody after he reported to the agency’s Port Harcourt Directorate.
The spokesman of EFCC, Dele Oyewale confirmed Okowa presence in the facility of the commission to Daily Trust but he declined further comments.
