The All Progressives Congress, APC, leadership in Rivers State has urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the state due to escalating violence and instability.
This call was made by Chief Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Rivers, during a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
“Rivers State is at war,” Okocha stated. And the dramatis personae who are responsible for the mayhem that has claimed lives are known. “The Governor is helpless, the police is helpless. Therefore the APC in Rivers State is calling for a state of emergency in Rivers State as a way of taming the mayhem, the upsurge that is going on in the state.”
Okocha emphasised the urgency of federal intervention to restore order and safety in the state, which has been plagued by a surge in violence.
I call on the federal government to act fast in this regard,” he added.
The APC’s plea highlights the severity of the security challenges in Rivers State, calling for immediate action to protect lives and stabilize the region.
The Federal Government is empowered to declare a state of emergency during a natural disaster, civil unrest, armed conflict, medical pandemic, epidemic or other biosecurity risk.
