Residents of Jos, the capital of Plateau, took to the streets on Monday to protest the escalating abductions and killings in the state.
The demonstration was led by Christian leaders, including the Plateau chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Polycarp Lubo.
The march began at the Fwavwei Junction community road and ended in a gridlock that left many commuters stranded.
According to reports, the protesters carried placards with the following inscriptions: ‘That they do not die in vain’, ‘We walk for peace’, Stop the killings’, ‘Stop the bloodshed’, ‘Every life matters’, and ‘Let Plateau live’.
The development comes in the wake of incessant attacks in Plateau State, where more than 100 people were murdered in Bokkos and Bassa LGAs in the last two weeks.
Speaking on the crisis, the chairman of the Plateau CAN faction, Yakubu Pam, said that it was time for stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, security operatives, and community-based organisations, to unite against the cycle of violence that has bedevilled the state for decades.
