The Hadejia Emirate Zakat Committee in Jigawa State has collected Obligatory Alms (Zakkat) amounting to ₦1.072 billion and distributed it to 185,000 needy individuals within the emirate during the 2024/25 season (1446AH Islamic Year).
This was contained in a press statement issued, signed, and made available to Tribune Online by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Hadejia Emirate Council, Malam Muhammad Garba Talaki. The statement highlighted that the collection included farm produce, livestock, and cash gathered from 27 districts in eight local government areas of the emirate.
According to the statement, “The Hadejia Emirate Zakkat Committee Secretary, Engr Isma’ila Garba Barde, presented the collection and distribution report to the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji (Dr) Adamu Abubakar Maje, at his Palace.
The cash, farm produce, and livestock were collected and distributed according to the Islamic principles of Zakkat collection and distribution.”
Engr Isma’ila Garba Barde noted that the previous collection (2023/24) was worth ₦300 million in Zakkat. “This time, the collection has tripled due to a bumper harvest and improved collection strategies by the committee,” he explained.
The statement further revealed that the Guri District of Guri Local Government Area recorded the highest collection, amounting to ₦105.7 million, followed by Auyo District in Auyo Local Government Area with ₦104.07 million, and Jabo District in Kaugama Local Government Area with ₦100.02 million.
The Zakkat was shared among the needy as specified by Islamic teachings, which include orphans, widows, the elderly, and persons living with disabilities.
In his remarks, the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji (Dr) Adamu Abubakar Maje, commended the committee and other stakeholders for their dedication and efforts in upholding one of the five pillars of Islam.
In recognition of their hard work, the Emir honoured three district heads with awards of excellence and encouraged them to continue their commendable service.
