Jigawa State Government earmarked the sum of three billion Naira for the revitalisation of 30 rural primary healthcare centers in the state.
This was announced by Governor Umar Namadi in an address delivered at Sakwaya town during the foundation laying ceremony of one of the projects.
Malam Umar Namadi explained that the project included pen meter fence of the facility, provision of solar solar-powered water scheme, solar electricity supply, and the construction of staff quarters.
According to him “this is part of the present administration’s effort to improve healthcare services at the grassroot level”.
The governor emphasis that the effort is part of his 12-point agenda and the state government’s commitment to adequate healthcare facilities to successfully implement social healthcare scheme for over 140,000 vulnerable across the state.
He noted that to that regard “I will be accenting an executive bill passed into law by the Jigawa state house of Assembly amending the law which establishes the Jigawa State Contributory Health Insurance Management Agency (JCHMA)”.
“One of the major amendments in the law is the establishment of Health Equity Fund to allow for the pooling of financial resources for the purpose of gradual expansion of healthcare coverage for vulnerable and indigent populations and to cater for other health emergencies in the State”.
Speaking at the occasion the country representative of the UNICEF Mrs Christian Munduate applauded the commitment of the state Government to improve the quality of health care services to the people.
Mrs Christian Munduate stated further that “It is a great honour to stand before you today, marking a significant milestone in our (UNICEF) joint efforts to combat malnutrition in Jigawa State”.
The representative maintained that “UNICEF will provide Multiple Maternal Supplements (MMS) free of cost for pregnant women in Jigawa State to improve pregnancy outcomes. We remain committed to partnering with the state across key sectors to enhance nutrition and health outcomes for the people of Jigawa, especially women and children”.
She also disclosed that “We are proud to share the success story of Jigawa with other states and globally, demonstrating what can be achieved through dedication and collaboration. Together, we can continue to make significant strides in improving the health and well-being of children in Jigawa State”.
She therefore reiterates UNICEF’s readiness to continue supporting the state health sector.
Speaking earlier the state’s commissioner for health, Dr Abdullahi Kainuwa said the state government has ordered the procurement of Dialysis machines for five General Hospitals of the state.
Dr Abdullahi Kainuwa explained that the Hospitals include Dutse, Hadejia, Gumel, Ringim, and Kazaure, said the gesture was aimed at reducing the hardship being faced by kidney patients in the state.
He added that Government has awarded contract for the procurement of Health equipment for the state Orthopedic Hospital Gumel.
