Jigawa state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, promised to reduce the poverty level by 10 per cent among the people of the state by the end of this year.
The governor made the disclosure in a speech delivered while flagging off a massive distribution of economic empowerment materials to women and youth in Ringim town, the headquarters of the Ringim local government area in the state.
Malam Umar Namadi explained that “an economic empowerment and poverty reduction programme is one of the 12 points on the agenda of this administration. We will do all our possible best to achieve the desires objective”.
According to him, “in an effort to achieve the desired goals, the state government came up with so many programmes in addition to establishing an agency for youth employment and economic empowerment to ensure successful implementation of the projects.”.
“There is empowerment under J-Cares, a project in collections with NG-Cares, state economic empowerment, and that of Danmodi Mobilisation Group. The NG-CARES, J-CARES, and State’s Youth Employment and Economic Empowerment are programmes under them that empower the general public to pay more attention to the agriculture sector”.
“While that of Danmodi Mobilisation Group is a project given emphasis on the youth who worked for the party (APC) during the campaign. We initiated this to empower them to be self-reliant and become independent of themselves.
Malam Namadi maintained that the state government would continue with the plans and more initiatives to reduce the poverty level by 10 percent in the subsequent years by supporting local trade and businesses in both rural and urban areas.
The governor noted that “our plans is to reduce rural and urban migration by some youth reduce criminal activities and improve security in the state and county at large.
“So far, we supported and empowered over 90,000 people, mostly youth and vulnerable women, with cash and business equipments under NG-CARES and state’s economic empowerment programme. While we supported over 21,000 youth through Danmodi Mobilisation Group”.
Other are 27 new millionaires under the Create Millionaires programmeme by the state government, whom were given N10 million each, about 45,000 collected N50,000 each, over 100 get tricycles loan facilities; over 400 youth trained on hand pump construction and repairs, thousands of wheat and Rice Dry season farmers under Fadama irrigation farming programmeme, etc.
He therefore warned beneficiaries not to sell the equipment but to make very good use of the opportunities and be good examples for the young.
